The Brooklyn Nets are the worst team in the NBA this year with a record of 9 wins and 37 losses. The worst part about it is that they don’t even have their own draft pick for the next two years. To go along with that they only have one young player who has the potential to become a star. That would be Sean Kilpatrick who scored a career high 38 points earlier this season. The rest of their roster consists of players who are too old to tank or young players that aren’t ready to be the center of a rebuild. If the Nets are going to start rebuilding then they need to trade one of their veterans for a draft pick. One of the most prominent veterans on the team is Brook Lopez.

Lopez is averaging 20 points a game, numbers that most teams would love but on the Nets his talents are wasted without a good team around him. If Brooklyn wants to salvage what they can of the next few seasons, then the best move would be to trade Lopez. If they get lucky they might get a first round pick in return. Let’s take a look at three teams that may be interested in trading for Brook Lopez.

1 – New Orleans Pelicans

The Pelicans are another team that has struggled to win games this year with a record of 19 and 28. Superstar Anthony Davis is having another great year but the rest of the roster just isn’t up to par with the young big man. One of their longstanding problems has been finding a center to go alongside Davis. They need one that isn’t afraid to do the hard work inside, but can also stretch the floor with his shooting ability. Brook Lopez can do all of the above. He’s averaging 5 boards a game proving he can do the dirty work and he is shooting 35 percent from three on more than five attempts a game. If the Pelicans are willing to part with a draft pick then Lopez would be the best man for the job.

2 – Houston Rockets

The Rockets, to everyone’s surprise, have been one of the best teams in the league this season with a record of 35 and 15. Led by an MVP candidate in James Harden, Houston is scoring 114 points a game making their offense the second best in the league. Despite these numbers, most experts don’t expect them to actually contend for a championship. A trade for Brook Lopez would be a big help for both Houston and the Nets. The Rockets would gain the veteran scoring center that they have been looking for and the Nets would probably be able to acquire Montrezl Harrell or Clint Capela. Two young big men who can help the Nets rebuild for the future.

3 – Charlotte Hornets

The Hornets have been mediocre this year with a record of 23 wins and 24 losses. Kemba Walker has been amazing again this year but not good enough to carry the Hornets past the first round of the playoffs. Aside from Nick Batum, Charlotte’s front court is severely lacking. If they expect to get past the first round then they will need to remedy that. Brook Lopez is the most obvious fit. Lopez’s skill in the pick and roll game would be deadly alongside Walker. The Nets would be happy to give a veteran like Lopez for Charlotte’s draft pick. This trade would allow Brooklyn to build for the future. While fixing Charlotte’s front court issues and helping them improve their playoff seeding.

This trade deadline, Brook Lopez will certainly be sought after by many teams that are trying to improve there chances at a playoff spot and a championship.
